The Herdwick, Great Gable
The Herdwick, Great Gable
This was one of those fortuitous moments. When I’m out I tend to keep a camera to hand rather than tucked away in a bag. Partly because it is useful for taking quick shots of scenes to see if they are worth investigating further, or for recording scenes worth revisiting. But also because you never know what may appear. This was one of those occasions; on a trip with Ian, after shooting a disappointing dawn over Buttermere we decided to carry on to the Gables. The cloud was blowing intermittently through a pass off to the left but provided a perfect backdrop for the sheep. The greys of the fleece and mountainside. The whites of the face and cloud. Nature in harmony. Simple but effective It lasted a few seconds and then both the sheep and the cloud were gone. This features (or stars depending on whether you like it as much as me) in my 2020-21 portfolio box set and is available now as larger prints in an edition of 25.
Prints are made on traditional, silver-halide photographic paper with a lustre finish and a border around the image of approx 1”. I can make prints on gloss paper (same price) or giclee cotton-rag papers (surcharge of approx 25% applies) Please ask me if you would prefer this. The aluminium panels I offer are a contemporary equivalent of cibachrome prints - with amazing depth and richness of colour. I also offer acrylic faced prints mounted on composite dibond panels.
